Early Life

She was born on October 24, 2002, in Tokyo, Japan. As she was growing up, she developed an interest in Vocaloid music and the culture that exists where people can share music on Niconico, a Japanese website. In her quest to emulate the unnamed internet performers who were called utaite, she started covering songs at an early age in her life. She wanted people to pay attention to her music and not her looks.

Beginning as an Utaite (2017–2020)

Ado started uploading covers to Niconico in 2017. She earned a fan base with her unique voice and expression, and her transition from soft singing to rock-like vocals with a simple recording studio at home. Prior to her official debut she was guest singer on works by producers such as Kujira and Jon-Yakitory.

Breakthrough with “Usseewa” (2020–2021)

On October 23, 2020, just before turning 18, Ado put out her debut single called “Usseewa”. The song, produced by Syudou, became a massive cultural hit in Japan due to its rebellious lyrics and powerful vocals. The song continued its success topping three popular charts including Billboard Japan Hot 100, Oricon Digital Singles Chart and Oricon Streaming Chart. “Usseewa” is also the second-quickest song to reach 100 million streams on the Billboard Japan Chart, making Ado the youngest solo artist to hit that mark. ““Usseewa” was an instant hit, making Ado a household name and confirming her as one of Japan’s brightest new stars. Her other singles like “Readymade”, “Gira Gira” and “Odo” took her to a higher level of popularity.

First Album: Kyōgen (2022)

The debut album of Ado was released in January 2022, and the title of the album is “Kyōgen.” The album was ranked first on top Japanese music charts and was able to sell more than 140,000 physical copies in just one week of release.

Global Recognition Through One Piece Film: Red (2022)

Ado’s international exposure increased greatly with her role as the singing voice of Uta in the movie “One Piece Film: Red”. Some of the tracks sung by her include the popular track “New Genesis”. It debuted at number one on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, becoming the first Japanese song to top the Apple Music Global Top 100 chart.

The film helped Ado gain millions of followers around the world. The movie and its soundtrack let many people throughout the globe get to know about her.

Musical Style

The music style of Ado is made up of genres such as J-Pop, rock, electronic music, punk, and Vocaloid culture. She is noted for her unique ability to vary the tone of her voice from whispering to grunting to rapping and singing high notes within a single piece of music.

Ado’s anonymity can be considered one of the things that makes her special among other artists. As opposed to most performers, Ado does not make herself visible through her face. The concerts she holds usually have beautiful lighting that makes people see only her silhouette, and her official images appear as sketches or avatars.

International Expansion (2024–Present)

With an increase in her fan base around the world, Ado began world tours in Asia, Europe, and North America. In 2025, Ado’s Hibana World Tour became the largest world tour that a Japanese artist had ever organized. She is now one of the highest-streamed artists in Japan who has remained anonymous up till now.
